It All Began When They Said "No."
I had better sales numbers, but James played golf with the boys club. Guess who got the promotion? Yep. Being young and dumb, I full on Jerry McGuired with a very dramatic "Who's coming with me?!" exit. (Spoiler alert- no one!)
This one moment ignited 15 years of serial entrepreneurship. Today, I'm finally living my true north helping other entrepreneurs play bigger as an author, podcaster and international keynote speaker.
I started my career as a 100% commission-only sales rep in Baltimore, MD. In order to get paid, I had to call everyone in the YELLOW PAGES-on a LANDLINE-and persuade strangers to sit through a PRINTED OUT POWER POINT. IN PERSON. The bad part of that? I sound like I'm 109. The good part? I learned about dealing with rejection, began studying the art of persuasion and internalized the importance of working your you-know-what off to make ends meet.
When I lost out on a promotion that I knew should have been mine- I made the decision that the risk of entrepreneurship would never outweigh the risk of letting someone else dictate my path in life.
So began the roller coaster of ups and downs. The Ups: raising 7 figures of capital from an all-male investor team, being hired by everyone from the Oscars in Hollywood to the US Navy at the Pentagon, and seeing my first book go to #1 on Amazon. But BEFORE all of those exciting moments, there were some downs: I was sued by a jilted former employer. I worked for years at a corporate job I hated to dig out of debt (from cash advancing payroll on my personal credit card). I cried myself to sleep after losing a few friends who were former employees. The point is, I've learned a lot about what doesn't work when it comes to personal happiness and professional success, and a little bit about what does. And those little bits of the good stuff, the Ups, the gems? Well, my hope is sharing those can help you avoid the downs and soak up the Ups so you can achieve that big, juicy success you so deserve.
DIGITAL PERSUASION: IGNITE YOUR INFLUENCE
We are 34 times more persuasive face to face than we are behind screens. And yet, in today's pandemic world, that in-person power is able to be utilized less and less. Your leadership, sales and marketing teams need to close the gap between "online them" and "offline them" in order to communicate as compellingly as possible in today's remote workplace.
YOU'RE KIND OF A BIG DEAL: UNLOCK YOUR AUDACITY
What gets us stuck, stalled and frustrated isn't our actions or lack of actions. It's how underprepared we are to respond to OTHERS reactions to our biggest, boldest moves.
Unlocking your audacity, or what Erin calls "Big Deal Energy" is your underutilized key to smashing barriers, leveling up your personal and professional life and stepping into the reality that you were destined for.
Feedback off the charts. So relevant and energetic. Can't wait to have Erin back again.
